1/48 B-70 Valkyrie?!?!

I visited a hobby shop in Tokyo last weekend that specializes in old OOP kits, and found a huge 1/48 B-70 Valkyrie kit by I.D. Models! Of course, it’s a vacuform kit, which in this kit’s case I’ve heard is very simple and requires all detail parts to be scratchbuilt.

The kicker was the price: 35,000 yen! That’s about US $300! I’ve heard of this kit before, and I realize it’s kind of rare…and a 1/48 B-70 would certainly be cool…but I just don’t want to pay that much and then still have to scratchbuild everything except the main shapes!

Anybody have any experience with this monster kit? Anybody ever seen a built example? I’ve seen built 1/48 B-1s before…how much larger (if at all) is the Valkyrie?

Anyhoo, just thought this sighting might interest a coupla folks out there!

A 1/48 Valkyrie would be huge! I remember seeing the survivor in the USAF museum and being astonished at how large it was. A check of dimensions shows its 30 feet longer than the B-1! Better build a bigger shelf if you’re going to build that one!

Brian, I never knew this kit even existed, where the heck would one display it once built? If you crazy…er…um…brave enough to purchase this beast, then good luck to you sir, I feel you will need it! Darren.

That beast would be over 4’ long and just over 2’ wide. It wouldn’t just be on display, you would have to turn it into a shrine!
