1/48 B-24 crew - in flight

I’m building a 1/48 B-24J, on a bomb run, under attack. So, I need crew members at thier combat stations - 9 total. I need ideas where I can find crew figures. The kit only has three. All I can find are “on the ground” poses.

Also, I can use recommendations on what to use for oxygen mask hoses.

I haven’t really looked for “active” crew members, but I have seen a couple of aftermarket kits that have complete air crews, but not specifically for the Liberator. As for O2 mask lines, Try winding fine wire around another wire, making sure the winds are tight. It gives a real good impression of “corrugated” tubing.

The onlything I can think of is cannibalizing and posing the figures out of the monogram b-17g kit. Somebody really needs to star making more crew members though, because I would like better quality figures to put in B-17s and B-24s among others.

I was reading in the june FSM that a reader had written in the same thing stating that there is a big market for posed action flight crews. I wonder why it hasn’t happened yet?

Thanks for the info everyone. I have two B-17 kits. I had not thought to look in them. Geat tip on the corrugated O2 hoses.

Next question: How do you “pose” the figures? Is this a cut-n-glue operation or can they be adjusted with a hot water bath?

I know that the Tamiya Lancaster 1/48 has couple of action pose crewman, hard to find though.

I usually cut and glue. I have used heat from a flame too, but I am a bit of a piro, and I usually go a little too far with the flame!

Demono69 had a good suggestion. I’ve used this before to detail a P-61 cockpit with the oxygen hoses lying around. An extra tip to this is, after posing the hose in the desired position, brush on some white Elmer’s glue before painting. This will “seal” the gaps, if any, in the coiled wire which will enhance that rubber hose look. Good luck!
