Finally, here is my Accurate Miniatures Avenger. A great kit with loads of detail. It was a fun build. The decals are for President George H.W. bush’s plane. I’m pretty happy with the new weathering stuff I tried out, but not so happy with the decals, especialy the insignias on the fuselage. All comments or criticism welcome.
The weathering lookes good. Nice interior detail too. How was the assembly of that kit? Did it go togther pretty smoothly? I have the same kit in my stash. Not sure if I’m going to do Lt. Bush’s aircraft or not though.
Thanks guys. The construction was pretty smooth. THere were a few fuselage seams but I think I messed up something on the interior to do that. Speaking of which, the cockpit detail is fantastic on both ends. If you have the bomb bay doors open, the fit is a bit tricky but not too bad. The dreaded rear turret actually slipped in after a few tries without much trouble.
About the landing gear. Yes, I’m pretty sure its splayed, but I had trouble getting the struts straight. I don’t know what I did, but I’m not too worried right now about it.
That’s nice work on the Avenger. Good looking weathering and your work on the canopy framing is flawless (lots of fun to mask that, huh?) Looking forward to seeing what you do with the Dauntless from the SSIII GB.
Looks fantastic!!! I have this kit [lost squadron markings] and a friend of mine has about 4 of them now. Any issues? He had some trouble with a large gap when he joined the two halves of the fuselage, but I think it was caused by the tabs on the IP. He removed them and the gap was gone. Did you have that problem? The weathering looks great. Not too overdone, but just enough to give that well worn service look.
about the IP viper. I did have that problem at first. but then I switched IPs. The kit comes with 2, one with tabs, one without. Don’t know why. The one without the tabs solves that problem. I think my gaps were caused by not aligning the main cockpit floor/bomb bay roof piece right. Thanks again for all the comments everyone.
I agree with all the comments, she looks a honey. I have the AM kit in my stash for a future super detailing project. (Future being the operative word).
I have built this kit and IMO it is perhaps the finest injection molded a/c kit on the market, bar none—maybe the best plastic kit period…Very nice job on the subtle weathering…
Great job on the turkey. It looks great. I’ve built this kit many times also. I have to agree with Manny. I have quite a few of them also. It’s my favorite Plane. I think any fit problems people have are usually very easily corrected and mainly a misplacement of something. You did this beast well.[#toast]
Tempest: Your right about it being BIG. Seeing one up close is awesome. A lot of people forget it was a 3 man crew that flew in them
