Hi all, just finished off this one. This is it’s second paint job, the first one was going to be with the huge sword fish decal which covers nearly from nose tip to tail tip but I had big troubles with the decals not setting right, even with micro sol, so I stripped it back and did the alternate scheme for the kit, pretty boring looking I guess but it has grown on me.
This is a “Limited Edition” kit and has quite a bit of photo etch included and Cartograf decals. It builds nice as well and I would definately do this kit again and highly recommend it, although it is my first 1/48 Mig-21 and I can not compare to other kits.
Kit- Academy-1/48 MIG-21MF “POLISH AIR FORCE”
Paints used- Tri-camo scheme Italeri Light Ghost Gray, Medium gray and Gunship gray.
Other paints used - Tamiya, vallejo and Akan acrylics and Gunze Mr. Metalizers and AK Extreme metal
Johnson’s Klear, Flory Dark Dirt wash, Oil paint for fluid leaks and Vallejo Satin varnish.
I like your model a lot - it’s a nice clean build. Curiously enough, I live just a few clicks from the airfield, where both of those aircraft (the one you built and the one shown on the box) were once (end of the nineties) stationed. It was the Krzesiny airfield - now the F-16s are posted there. Once I was shopping and I have seen the one with the swordfish taking off - that was cool - close enough to actually see the paint scheme. But for most of the time the Polish AF used the migs they were in bare metal all over, so don’t worry about your scheme being boring - that’s the way it’s supposed to be
Once I got to seat in a cockpit of a MiG-21MF at Krzesiny, and for future reference I would like to tell you that most of the panels inside have that characteristic Russian blue-green colour - not gray. Also, most of the time our MiGs only carried the centerline tank without any stores under the wings.
I like the way you did the panel lines a lot - what method did you use?
Thank you guys, I was not sure about the cockpit colour and the instructions called for grey, so I went with that. I used a dark dirt clay wash, that gave the panel lines their look.
Toshi, I have a few builds on the go, HK 1/32 Meteor, Hobby Boss 1/48 Fury and Demon, and Academy 1/72 SR-71
