This is a build that has been on and off of the bench for nearly nine months. You guessed it, the Monogram 1/48th A-6E. The fit was what one would expect form these folks - it makes you work for it! Decals are from an old sheet of Supercale early A-6E T.R.A.M.S. soon after the upgraded birds hit the fleet.
The stand is temporary. I still plan on using clear arcrylic rod inserted into the exhaust cans and mounted on a base (that why I didn’t bother with much in the cans). Now its time for the H’gawa 1/72 kit!
NICE work Granadier. I am currently working on the 1/72 scale and seeing this has motivated me to finish her up. Where can I find the stand she is sitting on?
The Intruder has always been a favorite of mine. Yours is really sharp. I’ve got the 1/48 Revell/Hasegawa rebox that I picked up in Okinawa waiting for me to start in on it. I hope mine comes out even half as nice as yours.
Yes, I did dip the canopy in futrue before I masked. After I took the mask off I noticed some of the paint had also come off along the edges of the frame, so had had to do some touch up. Just before I photographed it, I used a couple of cotton swabs dipped in Novus plastic polish and scratch remover (thats why on one of the photos you can see some blemishes on the paint just below the pilots side canopy - i was sloppy). That stuff works great!
I kept the weathering light becuase I wanted to depict a bird just after the up-grade at NARF. Usually I dirty up my navy birds.
