This is the Monogram 1/48 scale A-6E Intruder with a lot of after market stuff, (now bigger pictures); cockpit, wheels, wing folds, intakes and avionics euipment in the dropped down bay in the epenage. Oh yea, the decals too and it’s my first time making walkways, I think they look very realistic. The little blue bombs also known as MK-76 practice bombs on the MER’s are scratchbuilt by yours truly. Don’t ask how long it took me, I’m embarassed to say…
Thanks for the comments everyone. Working 2nd shift and having an 8 and 2 year-old at home, I don’t have a ton of time to knock out the models I have. Next up is a Lot 30 F/A-18F “Rhino” from VFA-211 “Checkmates.” That should only take me a year or so…
Now I’ll answer some questions…The flight deck is a Verlinden resin 1/72nd scale kit. It also came with jet blast deflectors you can position either up or down. I positioned them in the down position just because I had a plan for a diorama at one time that didn’t happen.
The intakes and intake covers are all one piece. I’d have to look into who made them. I bought the weighted wheels and intakes from the same guy. I cut out individual letters and #'s to add some detail to the black intake covers.
The cockpit is the Black Box set. I also used some photo etched parts on the cockpit and avionics bay from a Verlinden detail set. I’ll try and get some better picks of the insturment panel.
I concur on the decals. At first I was going to build it as a VA-75 Sunday Punchers a/c but at the last minute I changed my mind, I like the black tail look with the bright colors.
Regarding the wing-folds, no they can’t be lowered, it’s either one way or the other. I built it this way purposely and bought the resin wing folds for this kit.
I’ll take some more pics and post them. Thanks for the input guys, that’s why I post them, nothing better than reading the contributions of your peers.
