1/48 A-3B Skywarrior

The Trumpeter Skywarrior kit is pretty nice. There are some areas that were a bit tricky, such as the bomb bay and the doors. I made a single piece bomb bay door set that will be available in the Steel Beach line in the next couple of weeks if you don’t want to open the bomb bay. This build was the test for my KA-3B conversion. I originally had the tanker package on it, but I had a gentleman who wanted to purchase it and wanted it as an A-3B. I also used the SB resin wheels and letter/number masks for the tail/wing codes and BuNo. Markings came from an RA-5C sheet to get the VAH-13 markings. It was painted with Floquil Reefer White and MM Acryl Light Gull Gray.

Excellent build. The plane looks beautiful.

wow, that looks every bit as good as your first impression of the kit promised it could

very glad you larger scale guys got an aircraft that we’ve had for a while, maybe there will be a trend to fill in your 1/48 gaps in Navair

Nice to see a clean Navy AC! Beautiful build - Trumpeter should use it for the box art instead of the awkward illustration!

[t$t] Looks Great!

The buyer should be very pleased.

Howdy Darren,

Excellent build over all my friend!! How are the rivets on this ac? I know Trump was known for having a lot of rivets on their kits when they first appeared on the modelling scene…

Thank you for sharing!!

The surface detail is petite and outstanding on this kit. Outside of a couple of fit issues (bomb bay, bomb bay doors if you want them closed, and the canopy), it’s a very enjoyable build.

That is definitley a great thing and thank you for the quick reply Darren!

Darren,

Excellent build. The nose and tail are custom, yes? Are those the Steel Beach resin components?

You are correct. This was my test bed to see how the SB parts fit.

That’s a very nice “Whale”.

Well done!
