hi, i’m in the process of collecting ships of 1/350 scale and 1/400. i’ve chosen these scales because most of my favorite ships are of these scales.and they are big enough for those little details but small enough for practical display.
my question is would the 1/350 and 1/400 have a drastic “off-scale” look when put beside one another??
mate, in answering your question in a short word - yes! Now that depends on two things: 1) how picky you are with making your collection accurate as can be, and 2)whether you are going to build dioramas. I have a 1/350 Ohio & Oscar Class sub’s but I had a 1/400 Typhoon Sub from Revell. Now seeing that the Typhoon is the mother-of-all-subs, when that 1/400 Typhoon is placed next to it’s 1/350 SSGN sistership, it’s actually smaller. If my memory serves me correctly, in scale talk, a 1/400 Typhoon is approx 6cm’s (divide 6 by 2.54 for the US inches) smaller in length than a 1/350 Typhoon. Naturally I converted my sub (with great difficulty) to a 1/350 scale. Subs are easy to covert to slightly different scales, but with ships you just can’t do that. Hope this helps!
Those scales don´t mix, the diference is big.
Maybe if you put them on different shelfs it could work better.
I collect 1/350 ships and there are 1/400 ships i would love to by, but the
diference between them dont let me do it.
I have 1/700 and 1/720 ships also, and i can see the small diference, and it had allways bug my head, those small litle diferences.
All of this is because i like an accurate size wen i put them side by side.
But that its just me.
i’m not going to build dioramas…i’m just gonna put them in display shelves.
i have a friend who put a 1/300 miniture figures of deck crews on a 1/350 tamiya enterprise carrier and he said that you couldn’t notice the difference in scale.
so would it be really a “no-no” to mix the 2 scales (1/350 and 1/400) ???
About figures and ships there is a huge diference.
5 feet divided by 350 is 0,017
5 feet divided by 300 is 0,020 - its 0,003 dif. +/- ( 0,9 mm or 0,035 inch )
But :
800 feet divided by 350 is 2,285
800 feet divided by 300 is 2,666 - its 0,381 feet dif. +/- (11,5 cm or 4,5 inch ).
However i think you should by it anyway, i have 1/350 and 1/700 ships. 2 diferent scale collections.
What i mean is that they are diferent scales only.
I can tell you that 1/400 scale have interesting ships, the german Prinz eugen, for exemple.
best regards
