Banged out one of the crusty “other manufacturer” kits from my stash for the Hunters GB…if you’ve been paying attention there, you’ve already seen this one. [;)] For those of you not involved in that build, here she is. Other than one of the frets being severely covered in flash, and the heinous set of all-adhesive-repulsing-too-long rubber tracks, it actually went together quite easily…imagine that. From a Zvezda!
I think the long tracks give this build a bit of authenticity.I’ve seen pics of Russian tanks that made me wonder how the tracks stayed on.Two thumbs up.
YOu can see how on this model, the track-to-hull difference is so much bettter than on the DML series, The tracks look great–however you did that sag is really working for it!
Doog - I definitely see what you mean about that gap to the tracks. Going to have to use your shim method on the JS-2 I’ve got in the stash.
Disastermaster - what are you thinking about the lense? I was considering standing the model on end and pouring a wee bit of future over it, but past that I ran out of ideas…I also prefer the last photo. Those outdoor shots are definitely my faves. [;)]
TD - another vote for the saggy tracks! Maybe Zvezda really knew what they were doing after all. [(-D]
Really nice work on your ISU-152. I built this same Zvezda kit last year, and enjoyed the build quite a lot. Made me take a second look at Zvezda kits.
The snow in those last two pictures looks very real. [:)]
Did you sleep during this build Dupes? Cranked it out under a week. The new Biffa! Looks mighty stunning bro. I like the big blocky look of it and the winter scheme is rather fitting. Well done. I might highlight the topd of the tracks with some silver, but other than that well done.
It really looks like silver paint, please don’t take offense. I would hollow it out and put a lense or fill it in with resin (in the manner you suggested) . I “have” used a lense from a model car kit after filing it down and thinning to size. You could just leave it empty with maybe a broken bulb and a few tiny bits of glass or wire in the void.
As I look closer, is the siren/horn drilled out? Pardon the emoticon overdose earlier, I was having some fun last night.
Looks like you overcame the problems with this one just fine dupes! I agree with DM, much better to drill out the light and use some clear epoxy or similar for the lens.
Very, very nice model.[tup] I especially like the pics of the tank out in the snow. Makes it look like it’s really out in the field somewhere in Russia.
I have been wanting to ask this. How is Zvezda now compared to other model manufacturers in terms of quality? Have they improved? We do not get much of them and I can only order them.
Yeah, the headlight looks like silver paint…because it’s silver paint. [;)] I’ll try the futured-glass look, otherwise that’ll have to go. Drills it is! And yes, the horn/siren dealie was drilled out, looks however like I neglected to hit the inside of it with any sort of a wash, so you can’t tell. [#oops]
As for Zvezda quality, I don’t have much to go by - this is my first kit of theirs, and it’s one of the earlier releases (at least judging by the kit number). Maybe post something in the forum, see what other kits people have done?
Wow, finished already! You made that old kit shine![tup] The only thing I noticed other than the light is the tracks. They could use a little drybrushed silver here and there. Other than that, it’s beautiful. The new Biffa; that’s interesting idea. As for zvezda kits, my brother decided to try building a tank, and he chose zvezda’s t-34/76. The sponsons have no bottoms, and there are plenty of gaps and fit problems to deal with. Looks like they’re a mixed bag.
dupes: I didn’t know you were working on this, nicely done sir[tup]!!! You have quite the ability in several modeling genres(that’s twice I’ve used that word today…hmmmm). I especially like the steaks on the turret and fuel drums. The front of the fenders are well done too…and hey, don’t sweat those tracks, they look great! A few suggestions/minor stuff: You may want to vary the amount and placement of the snow on the road wheels, the wood grain on the axe is a bit too evenly spaced, and the seven is a little bright.
Keep 'em coming dupes, I really enjoy viewing your builds[#toast]!!!
Oh, and by the way…I know a great set of Russian Figures you could add to this build…[:-^][;)]
DHM - I agree about the track DB. They came as a silver color, and I actually chipped away a lot of the overcoat I put on them to simulate the bare metal, but it looks like they need a bit more silver!
SMJ - See? Everyone likes surprises (got a couple more up my sleeve, too)! Yeah, the road-wheel snow didn’t come out quite like I had hoped, still want to play around with different consistencies of snow with different glues to get it a bit less “grainy”. The tool handles - I’m still not confident on my tool stuff…never have been. But I’m trying! [:D] Oooog, figures. I certainly need to get more comfortable with them. A lot more comfortable than I am to say, add 11 guys all over the top of this monster! [;)]
Rios - Quite honestly, I don’t care what your opinion is about this kit, or my build of it. Why you think you can insult people, and then act like it “didn’t happen” I have no idea…in fact, feel free to just not post to any threads I start. This constantly negative all-knowing attitude coupled with your complete lack of forum ettiquette and tact just makes me tired.
dupes: I have a really EASY technique for tool handles, and it looks GREAT… but I don’t want to hi-jack your thread. Should I send you a PM, or is it OK if I add it here on your thread???
There’s NO WAY you’ll get the grain of the snow to look any different if you use diluted white glue…again, PM or should I go into detail here?
