1/35 Trumpeter LAV-25 Finished Pics

Just got this one in for the 08 year! About time… I’ve been working on it since… wow… 06 /forums/656094/ShowPost.aspx

The 3 tone NATO colors were believe it or not hand painted with a brush using their respective Tamiya acrylic paints. Everything was sprayed with a Krylon clear matte to seal. Then weathered on top of that, sealed again and so on.

The camo netting is cheese cloth, the figure is a mix of… probably all the people included in the kit and even then he was cut up and changed around to fit his pose. He’s got the action for a diorama but I’m not sure how that’s going to look yet. I think his flesh tones could still use some work… [V]

The back pack and one of the desert camo packs were sculpted using clay, the MG mount was scratched (as best as I could) using evergreen

The wire cutter to the left of the Bushmaster is scratched from evergreen, here’s another shot of the MG mount. I’ll probably hit this again with a clear matte after I dust off the real dust from too much shelf time- the figure’s a little shiney still and I’m sure I’ll go back and try and rework the skin colors.

Everything on the back is most likely from Verlinden, dont remember what kits though, the Air ID flag is lead foil painted with different Oranges and Reds eyeballed to shade. The antennas were constructed in an interesting way for me. I can never get them to stick to the model, so what I did was took some evergreen tubing that looked about the right thickness and just cut the molded on antenna detail off and glued in the tubing as a replacement so I had something to stick the antenna in while I waited for the super glue to dry. Turned out pretty good for me.

Overall I’d say it was a pretty good kit to make, nothing too hard to scratch and no real fit problems I couldn’t work around with some sandpaper and putty

Looks good from here… Got any more “figure’s-eye-level” shots?

You guys are gonna force me to build one of these you know.Great job.

I’m leaning toward that new Stryker with the 105mm gun.

Thanks Hans, I’ll snap a few from a lower level for ya

Yeah that’s a nice looking kit that AFV put out, did you catch redleg’s WIP of it?

and here you go- even managed to fix up the white ballance in the process

Without possible figures

And with, they’re in various stages of construction (they’re probably a little large for the scale- Verlinden) Instead of decals I just painted on the general idea of the markings, 1/35 number stencils look too stark for me, even after weathering goes over the top

Here’s the back end I neglected to photograph the first time around

And the commander with his MG mount that doesn’t exactly stand up to the close photography

Looks good to me…This going to be a diorama? The VC’s pose almost demands it, lol…

I know the feelin’, lol… That’s why I never shoot close ups of my figures, lol… They’re painted to show what can be seen from 15-25 feet away on a real person, and I want them to remain at that distance, lol…

I helped my son build an Italeri version, but he likes his builds underweathered a bit. Nicely done, especially on the scratched items.

Yeah I think I’m going to have to make it into a diorama, not sure about how it’s going to look, still in the basic planning stages. All I know is this guys going to have to have something important to be yelling about!

And I agree with you about the distance issue, I’ve read through Shep Paine’s books more times than I can count haha that’s one of the reasons I want to stick this one on a diorama, if anything it will help pull attention from the faces of the people I stick on it and add more interest and a sense of scale

Thanks Tigerman! I always enjoy the weathering process, glad you think it turned out nice [:D]
