Nice work, Joe. The road wheels for tanks is kind of like masking a bunch of glass panes on a greenhouse canopy such as on many German bombers. Tedious and maybe even boring.
You’re moving right along and your Panther progress is looking great. I really like how the texture turned out.
Thanks Christopher. I know…right?
LOL!!! I know. ![]()
Thanks for the good comments Steven.
The texture thing was a whole new technique for me. Thank you buddy.
I installed the wire screens over the air/ radiator intakes and am scratch building a retaining device for a spare road wheel. Here’s the start of all of that as well as showing off the screen work.

Looks like real rough cast steel. That’s impressive. I’m going to try that.
That’s a nice little detail Joe.
Nice work and idea on that wheel retaining device. I always like it when I get an idea to add something to a model.
Thanks fellas ! @Cbowling …I had no idea about that method either but after trying it out I found that it wasn’t that hard to apply.
After I took a second look at the spare road wheel retainer, I just didn’t feel right about it …so…I added a little something to the mix.

Nice progress. Hard to believe this is your first armor build but then again you’re a Black Belt at static plastic karate ![]()
I can’t believe I missed this build from the beginning.
I’m just taking this one slow Bob and thank you for tagging along. The Tammy kit isn’t the most accurate or detailed out kit out there but it sure is an easy build and that’s what I needed so I could concentrate most of my attention on skillsets needed to pull off convincing looks.

Looking good Joe! Don’t worry about that hole you had to drill for the jig…you can use the hole to attach the Panther to the diorama base with a screw
(getting closer & closer to that diorama build)
Cheers,
C.

Whoops…haven’t been staying on top of this thread like I should have. Will resume here shortly gang.

Looks real good Joe
Thanks Tony.
I started working on the second turret mounted spare road wheel. I have these 1/25 scale lugnuts just laying around in my spares bin and they are working out perfectly for stuff like this.

Still following this build ![]()
Sorry bout dat Bob. Just got busy with life. Good to have you along and the offer still stands for the other place brutha.
No worries man. Maybe if you have a set of 1/25 scale wheel locks it would be a fun easter egg for those who catch it.

Going with a late war camo pattern and I’ve got the secondary color & color modulation applied and have done some additional work on the road wheels. I’m finding that building armor is pretty enjoyable so far.

Looking great so far! Glad your camoflague scheme is going down a lot more efficiently and decisively than mine
Are you going for the late-war look where they’d just been applying olive-green straight over the red-brown primer?
Thanks Darren and I am indeed going for the late war look. This was definitely a tough scheme to apply.
I mixed 60% Tamiya Dark Yellow Enamel with 40% Tamiya White and hand brushed the lines between the color borders of the camouflage and then came back over the lines with some Tamiya X-20 Enamel Thinner and brushed over the lines causing a blurred / worn effect.
I also acquired an Aber metal gun barrel as I just didn’t feel right about the two piece OOB gun barrel. This will be getting primed and painted soon. Next up will be some gloss coat in the areas of the turret and hull where the decals are going to be positioned and decals will be going on after that.

Fantastic technique! I’ve been going out of my mind trying to reconcile control over the camo pattern from masking with maintaining some diffusion at the interface… Looks like you’ve hit hole in one! ![]()
