1/35 Tamia Sdkfz 9 FAMO - WIP

Ok, so did you use thin or super-thin CA with the baking soda?
Baking soda acts as an accelerant for CA, which could be cool.

Really hadn’t thought that the car could have been, more likley was a large scale R/C, makes sense. Even to this day I’m still just along for the ride when I watch it.

Totally AWESOME work so far on such an already beautiful kit. Tamiya has made this kit exactly as mentioned, many small models built into one. One of their best IMO, even better with the changes you have made.

That’s correct. I gave it a good wash of Tamiya super thin and immediately applied some baking soda. I gently tapped on the toothpick to eliminate the excess.

Thank you my friend. I think I need to find that movie and watch it again!

I’m thinking I just might!

I don’t think I have the skill or patience for that!

Chad: The PE improvements look fantastic!!!

Capt Mac: Thanks! Never thought about it but that makes perfect sense.

I have always wanted to build this thing, just need to find one. Easy, right? Watching here…

Ok, been looking around for “making of Dirty Dozen” info, and find all sorts of cool info–just nothing on the vehicles used.

It’s probaly worth noting that the prop houses/model shops will routinely build 1/4 and larger scale models for “effects” shots.

The shot-up boat scene used a 1:2.5 replica, becase “water does not scale” on film.

Great info CaptMac, with all the tech available today, we tend to forget the skill that was to bring action scenes safely to us. Sometimes I miss the good 'ol days.

Bish how can one tell the difference between the Famo and a larger? 12ton seen in the movie?

Sd.Kfz 9. Notice the shape of the guard between the roadwheel and track. Also, one section for crew seats behind the driver with a large cargo bed, more suited to a recovery vehicle.

Sd.Lfz 8. The guard is a different shape and an extra row of crew seats, more sutable for a gun crew.

The 9 is the larger of the 2, 18 ton to the 8’s 12 ton. Though the track section has the same number of wheel stations which makes it look the same size, the 9 is about 1m longer than the 8. The 9 might have slightly larger wheels which would make up the extra 3 feet.

And this is the one from the movie.

Awesome Bish thanks for the reply. Any progress MM?

A little progress Armornut. Nothing too exciting, just trudging through PE.

Making the radiator is a slow process.

But, it really adds some zest to the front end.

Nice details Chad.

Oh yea that is sweet[:D]

Oh yeah, she’s coming along so nicely- the PE really looks good there!

Thanks guys!

Still trudging through PE. Subassemblies are done and she’s just about ready for paint.

Great progress Chad!

You’ve got to get her done so you can start on that gigantic roadway gun soon!

Thanks Gamera. Yeah, that thing is different for sure!
