1/35 Scale Sand

I’m building a WW2 german half track in Africa. Need some ideas what I can use for sand on the base. Regular sand, like you get at home depot is too big.

You can buy after-market sand that works…in 35th scale most types of true sand are pretty much gonna be as fine as talcum powder…

Silica sand is pretty fine…just a touch heavier than dust. It is white though and would need to be painted after being fixed to your base. You can get a good size (big enough to last a looooong time!) bag for around $5 from most home/hardware stores.

Yeah, just don’t breathe it in…

No joke, that’s some really bad stuff for your lungs! DO NOT breath it.

My Lowes had some powder grout marked down $1.00 ish. These came in quart milk carton like containers. Various shades of reds, browns, greys. A little finer than sand from Hobby Lobby but not as fine as talc.

This company sells great railroad ballast- much nicer than Woodland Scenics.www.rrscenery.com/AZROCK5.html

The N scale stuff is probably about a 1/4" piece of gravel at armor scale, but it looks really good and is pretty fine.
