1/35 scale helos

Just registered to the site, and I like the promise of this new forum thing. I’m wondering how many fellow modelers are out there for 1/35 scale helicopters. I love the subject matter, and am looking for kits for the UH-1N USMC Huey and Russian Ka-52 attack aircraft in this scale. If they don’t exist, that’s cool, I’ll just recomend them for my most wanted kits! Here’s hoping the subject matter of this genre keeps growing.

New here too, I have been a subscriber to FSM for about 15 years though. I too love 1/35 scale helos, I heard that Academy is showing an upcoming UH-1N in the works. Lets hope so. I converted one of the Revell 1/32 UH-1H models to an N model some time ago. It turned out pretty good.

I haven’t seen any of the Kamov helicopters in anything much larger than 1/72, and haven’t seen anything regarding the Twin Huey either, but I would definitely be interested in a UH-1N if this is true. Problem is, Academy’s release schedule is sketchy at best - many of us are still waiting for the 1/32 F/A-18 which was supposed to be released two years ago, and still, nothing. I’ve heard that it may be released in the summer of 2003, but I’ll believe ti when I see it.

Don’t know if you’ve heard about Trumpeter’s new release announcements for 2003-2004, but they’ve announced an Mi-8 and Mi-24 in 1/35. There is also talk of a group of modelers in Europe who are considering kitting a multimedia (vac. resin) 1/35 kit of the MH-53J PaveLow (this one would be quite impressive on the shelf, if you ask me!)

Now, if someone would just do an AH-1F MOD Cobra in 1/35, my wishlist would be nearly complete!

I have heard about Trumpeter’s future releases and have seen the MI-8 on the web. i just can’t see plunking down that much mones (between $70 to $100, depending on where you look). I thought $45 was a bit much for the Academy UH-60s. Does it cost that much more for the company to produce a helo than it does an armored vehicle. Look at their M10 and M12 kits, complete interiors and all the details for around $25-$30. Why so much more for 1/35 helos???

Hi from France.
For those interested in russian helicopters, here is an interesting link (plans and drawings)

Hi Guys~
Sorry can’t wait building 1/48 CH-53J (Revell/Cobra) Nighthawk (minicraft/Cobra) we have some beauties here now we just have to build!
Got the Nighthawk idea from a great site in Italy!

Have fun~

Thanks for all the replies, Steve and Heavy. The Mil birds on the way sound intriguing, and I hope that Academy Huey is on the way as well. As for a 1/35 MH/CH-53…what a monster that would be!

Hey I love 1/35 helos! I’d like to have the reissued Revell CH-53 and I want to have a new tool of this. Trumpeter? Anyone?

New to this site also, and I am working on a MRC/Academy 1/35 Blackhawk currently. Including all those raised rivets. Fun,fun. I’m waiting for a decent 1/35 AH-64.

Later,

Hello to all I am a UH-60 Instructor Pilot with the 101st Airborne at Ft Campbell. I am currently working on a detailed UH-60 like the one I flew in Kosovo. Will post pics when finished. Have a good day Erick

It’s great to be able to communicate with a few fellow ‘rotor heads’. As for new releases, Panda Models now has for sale two 1/35 scale Hueys. UH-ID/H aircraft with 'Nam markings. It looks like the Italeri 1/48th kit up-scaled the way IMEX did the Revell 1/32 scale Apache. I’ve ordered one of the Panda kits and I’ll let you know what it looks like. The IMEX Apaches are basically the Revell 1/32 ship reduced to 1/35 with some extra details added and is available as two kits, the A model and the D model. By the way, UH60 Pilot, I look forward to seeing your photos. It’s been a long time since I’ve been to Campbell. I featured a lot of 101st aircraft and crews in my book, “H-60 Black Hawk in Action”. Thanks to all for your comments. I look forward to see more in the future.

Hi guys, As a former Aussie UH-1B/D/H crewie, I’d just like to see an accurate H model in 1/35 scale. I’m a confirmed CH-53 fan also. The only one that I’ve been on was IDF back in ole 82. Regards Kymster

I don’t build a lot of choppers generally speaking, but I like the idea of 1/35 scale for them. Not so much because they go well in armour dioramas, but simply because most helicopters are more compact than your average aircraft and so I think should, as a rule, come at a larger scale for the better display of details.

As for my own wishes for 1/35 scale helicopters; I’d love to see any variant of a Sea King that would include folding rotor and tail options.

As I tend toward more obscure subject matter, I could also appreciate one of those Rooivalk helicopters that South Africa is using these days.

Anyone else with me on those subjects?

Hey Guys!
Wow, glad I found this! I’m a new member too.
I was wondering if anyone’s got a spare Revell 1/32 AH-1G they’re willing to part with. I’ve got four building right now for a project I’m working on, but need a fifth to build one for a friend of mine who is a former Cobra jock who flew in Vietnam.

The project I’m currently doing is “1st Cav Cobras in Cambodia, May/June, 1970”. I’ve got 2 of the 4 nearly complete at this point, they are:

68-15049 “R1” C/2/20 Aerial Rocket Artillery
69-16437 “Heather Dawn” C/1/9 Cavalry

The other two are from D/227 and D/229 Assault Helicopter Battalions respectively. I’m fairly certain of the paint schemes, but I’m waiting for the final word from the aircrews on nose art, etc.

All four will be profiled in my new book from Osprey, “US Army AH-1 Cobra Units in Vietnam”. It’ll be out in September, followed the next september by one on Marine Cobras. Any ideas if Revell is planning on updating or re-releasing this kit??

Thanks!

Jon,
I believe the Cobra is still available from Revell AG (German Division of Revell). If some of the on line hobby shops such as Squadron.com does not have it … try searching EBAY. You’ll be surprised how many models you can find there.
Good luck!
Paul

I am kind of new to modeling. At least getting models to come out looking have way decent. Look and the new company PANDA, they are making some 1/35 scale heli’s and i think they are resonably price. I do not know about quality. I would not be surprised if they bought MRC molds or something along that line. I am still trying to finish a UH-1 Iraqoui (sorry for misspelled) from MRC that was released a couple of years ago. I do not want to screw it up so slowly it goes.

Scott

Paul,

Thanks! Actually, I’ve gotten three of the four Cobras I’m working on from Ebay. I usually deal in WWII and Vietnam Militaria, but I recently found the hobby section!
I will definitely check out Revell Germany!

Thanks!

Jon

Hi guys,

I was wondering if anyone knew if there was a decent resin T53 engine out there in resin in either 32 or 35 scale. Also, I’m looking for decent 32 scale pilot figures for my Cobras. Any out there? I haven’t seen much online, but then again I haven’t really been looking. Cobra #3 just had its fuselage halves mated and the seams have been sanded smooth. I’m waiting to order the cockpit set from Cobra Models for #3 & 4 until after the new year. #1&2 have had their main rotors mounted and are looking pretty cool! If I could figure out how to post pictures to this site, I’d include some! In the meantime I’m headed back to NY this weekend to work on the real AH-1G 69-16437 “Heather Dawn”!

Later!

Jon

Jon,
DML made 4 1/35thscale U.S.helicopter Crew figures, 2 of which are pilots. The serial number on the box is 3311. I do not know if these are still available.

Steve Darrah

Yes, the set has been re-issud by Dragon. By the way, they are also included in some of the new Panda 1/35 scale UH-1D (really and H model) kit. They have a red sticker on the box for those with crew.
