1/35 Italeri Church Window, feedback?

Hi, just started with scale modelling after taking a 25 year break :slight_smile: Used to do some simple models when I was a teenager without really knowing anything about techniques etc. So fun to be back now with everything new that has come!

Would really appreciate some feedback! I did this one with brush, havent gotten an airbrush yet. I am happy with it in general considering its my first try, but I think the broken edges looks to cartoony and the window color is too bright.

I can’t find fault with the idea . I would soften and darken the window frame area a little . Not much but enough to add some aging to go with the idea of ruins . other than that , Nice job !

If you want you can sprinkle some railroad gravel ( H.O. or N ) on the edges for a dustier broken small grain rock and broken grout look present from aging . Keep the colors though .

I would tone the colors to a paler version of what they are .

Hello!

It’s lookin’ good and I like the weathering on the stone a lot. The violet on the window frame is very “fantasy” though. Colours like that weren’t available in real life until recently, where chemistry has made some serious advances. Like TB I also think the edges of the walls are too smooth - I mean they look like they have been broken hundreds of years ago and not recently. That’s OK for a fantasy setting, but wrong for WWI or WWII seting. So if you wanted to go for a historical ruined church my suggestion would be to go all natural stone with colour and rougnen up the edges a bit. Other than that many young modellers dream of getting this leve of finish some day! Thanks for sharing and have a nice day

Thanks for the feedback guys. I guess I overdid the dry brushing of light color on the broken edges, that’s why they look too rounded. Is a filter the correct thing to apply to the window to make them darker

Yep. I can see just about any bright color being used on a church but it would probably have been chipped and faded after the years. The right side with that limestone cap and below is looking very good as does that green algae type stuff growing up from the ground.
