I decided to get rid of the infantry in my stash so im going to paint all of them one by one to see growing progress. I’ll be using tamiya arcrylics for the uniform and local artists oils for skin. I am completing the tamiya us assault infantry right now as a practice. In que I have dragon’s canadian infantry(with missing lee-einfields), dragons us anti tank inf, and dragons us armored inf. I’ll post picks by the end of the week on the tamiya figures, not the best like manny’s or INDY’s but it’s a beginning. I’m going with artists oils because I feel that the results are more convincing than arcrylics as long as you have the right mixture though! My inspiration is from an article from myssing lynx. I will also note that the us armored inf and anti tank inf is for a GB called anti tank GB. From my selection you can tell im an allied freak , but don’t worry I have dozens of german figgies and armor in my wish list[:P].

So these are pictures of my practice round. Not the best but there you go. I haven’t painted them to my fullest capabilities so don’t worry, there’ll be better. Funny, i didn’t notice that i had a second lens for this kind of pictures until now, so heres a little taste of it. I’m also posting a second round of pics of my pershing, since the 1st round didn’t show the details.

These look pretty good --except the shiny—you say you used a flash?[*-)] Yeah that’s not good–try a desklamp or two with a GE Reveal 100 watt bulb(s) and set your camera for incandesent(importaint step–your camera should have a setting to go with whatever light source)
Welcome back! Good work on the figures… more practice will only get lead you to better results! [Y] If you want to fill in the gaps like this figure’s left shoulder, go and buy Zap-a-Gap glue… it works great to fill in the gaps and it is some kind of medium CA with mild drying time to allow the glue sink inside the gap. I use it all the times. Give it a shot… looking forward to more pictures.
I do spot these things as they are very characteristic of Tamiya figures sadly. Thanks for reminding about it though. I’ll try to get some filling putty next time i go to my LMS. Stay tuned!

yes mine too, I use it a lot for tanks and the soldier’s uniform. I have a bottle of raw umber deluted with testors enamel thinner. Last time i tried it on the faces, it was tooo runny though, but if i do make a second batch, i can increase the ratio of raw umber
so now i’m working on dragons algoquian canadian infantry and so far has gone well. other than having no leee einfields no other parts are missing considering i got it from a convention(spare lee einfields please?). i’ve managed to create arm slings of carpenters tape and coat it with a coat of tamiya desert yellow.
it has been a frustrating week as the eye slots for these figures are poorly defined, they’re pretty much flat. I’m not sure how long it will take for me to perfect the eyes [:(]. Plus, i understand that some figure modelers like to leave an outline of black or burnt sienna around the eyes to add contrast. Anyone know a good tip to avoid painting over it?[:S]
FSM has had some valuable figure painting articles over the years. I’ll look for my glossary that they printed a few years ago, that might locate some of them. I do remember a tip about the eyes that helped me improve. Even though the iris and pupil are round, you don’t see round. Locate the “dot” in the eye slots and then paint in around them with your face color and highlights. I’ve noticed that the less of the eyeball showing, the better my eyes have begun to look. I’ve painted a bunch of civil war figures over the years and chuckle at the “Just been goosed” look of my early guys. Try to Google up some info on figure painting. There’s always something there.
