It’s been a long time since I posted on the forums. Recently I have tried a different method of making 1/35 camouflage nets for my armour. It’s along the same lines as we have all used with one minor change.
The net portion is cheesecloth or surgical gauze (whatever you have to hand) dyed in a dark colour i.e. Black or Brown of fabric dye. Just follow the dying instructions on the package and dye a bulk lot for later uses.
The strips or HESSIAN on the real thing is Burlap and it has its own unique texture that is slightly visible in scale. So I have wrestled with what to use. First, I was using coffee filter cut into strips. It looked okay but the texture was just too defined for scale. This photo shows my first attempt on my Canadian Firefly Vc.
So I tried cutting kitchen foil and found it worked alright but did not have the texture I wanted. So I found an alternative. I collected numerous pieces of foil from cigarette packs and flattened them out and cut them into strips. The texture stays and takes paint very well.
