What color would the wood be on a German boxcar. I was able to use dragos type ommr flatcar and use styrne sheet plastic. I put a cot of wood on it so should I put any other colors on it.
Mostly dark dull red or dark dull green. The standard colours that DB uses for freight waggons today are pretty similar to those used by the Reichsbahn. Specialist model railway paint manufacturers have the relevant colours. Underframe would be off-black - Tyre black, Revell Germany Anthracite or Tamiya Nato Black would all work, but this would also weather due to general track grime and brake dust dirt.
Remember that these things weathered, were subject to a lot of abuse, and came close to the bottom of the pile when it came for repainting, so you can get away with a lot of ‘roughly right’.
