1/32th scale A6M5 Zero "Trainer" pics

So, here it is. The A6M5 Zero by Revell in the 1/32th scale. As I told you in my introduction, I didn’t want to do the original paint plan, so I decided to paint the plane like the A6M2’s used for training fighter pilots. That means it’s got an orange tummy. [:)]

I did some subtle weathering with a pastel crayon and then sprayed lacquer on it so as not to let my fingers smudge it. However, the decals didn’t like my car lacquer and one of the “rising suns” got a little smaller. A piece got torn off by the air flow… That’s also the reason for the bullet holes in the wing: I camouflaged the tear to be caused by an anti-aircraft gun.

Well, this was my first model in a long time so I have to say I’m proud of the outcome, after all. And for all thinking about building a Zero and haven’t got the money for the Tamiya kit, I really can recommend this one (Revell Mitsubishi A6M5 “Zero-Sen”, 1/32). All the parts are nicely detailed with screw-ends and I only found one true weakness: the pilot and the his chair.

Here’s the plane as a whole, without a register code [:I]:

And here a close-up of the bottom of the left wing:

Nice modeling,
Zeb

Zeb,

Looks pretty cool, and I like it when someone does an unusual subject. The contrast between the green and orange makes for quite a striking scheme.

I did a captured Mustang (Luftwaffe) with the green over yellow scheme and this Zero kinda reminds of it. I’ll have to post some photos, if I can get any decent shots with my Kodak POS3500!

Fade to Black…
