1/32 Typhoon

This is a Revell 1/32 Typhoon I was practicing baremetal foil on. Actually, it is heat tape that I acquired from an old job I worked at. 1/32 scale is not really my scale and I’m not really into Typhoons either. I did try to do the best I could do though. The decals started to fall apart, but I left them on since this was a test subject.

Thanks for looking[:D]

Pretty good build of an oldie. Thanks for sharing.

Regards, Rick

The heat tape looks a little thick, But it’s still a good looking model.

Hand paint?

Jeff, I don’t know anything about the tape you used, but as a metal finish it appears to be too grainy and striated. I would abandon that tape and try one of the available foils, or even good ol’ aluminum foil. I think there was an article last year in FSM about using regular kitchen-use foil. Nice effort on your part, though.

Another general suggestion when building and painting your models is to take your time getting the fit of the parts right and getting lines painted straight and even. This build is a little “rough around the edges,” to give you an honest appraisal. You mentioned this build was a test bed of sorts for the metal tape application, so perhaps you were not so concerned with the overall finish here, but I think you’d find your finished works much more satisfying to you if you put just a little more effort into those areas.

Keep up the good work, Jeff, and please let us see more!

Nice build!!

But I do agree with Brian…

Cheers,

Jürgen

Yeah I agree with you guys too. I wasn’t trying to get the fit or the seams right, especially if you see the door [:D]. My work is usually a little better than this and I haven’t used that foil since then. I was just trying it since it was free and I had never done foil before. If I ever do a metal finish, it will be when I get a better airbrush. You guys will start to see more of my builds now that I have figured out the elusive photo posting. This model was a bear and I didn’;t put any extra effort in it. I spray painted the top and I did not go back and touch it up.

Over all, this model SUCKS!!! It was a free model and definately not in my scale. I have one other 1/32 scale plane and it is I think the revell F-4E. I like that plane and when it gets in the build pile it will be well cared for. Most of my builds I am doing right now are of the not so good kits. I have been stockpiling kits for about the last 8 years and I have around 100 aircraft kits. Matter of fact I just picked up the Hasegawa A-4C and F-16 CJ block 50 for a grand total of $27.34 for both kits at my LHS. He puts kits that have been on hand a year 50% off. There are a few more I will be going back to get if they are still in stock when I go.

Anyway, I really appreciate your honesty on this sucky (my part) kit and not trying to blow smoke up my rear. I thought there would be some flaming because, (what little knowledge I have) these wern’t even bare metal. Thanks for your comments.[:p]

I appreciate your appreciation! [:)]
Like you, when I post something, I really want to hear people’s honest opinions.
I figured from your original post that you hadn’t put a whole lot into the finish of this kit, as it was primarily a test for the metal tape, so thanks for confirming that.

I don’t know much about NMF, but there are plenty of folks here who do, so you should ask around for hints and advice, try it for yourself, and see what works best.

Good luck! [:)]

I think it wants smaller pieces at least on curves and much more pressing!
Think also that this model has so huge bolts, thats so difficult to give it this effect, even with the thinner BMF

I think it´s a nice looking build.
