1/32 Tamiya F-4E

Still a loooooooong way to go, but at least it’s starting to look like a Phantom. I still can’t get the saturation right with my camera / software combination so it does not look as green as it appears in this photo. Also, the finish is much flatter than this photo makes it appear. There are some more photos on my web site. All in all, it’s shaping up pretty well.

Interesting thing about this particular bird, it was stationed at Kirat RTAFB at about the same time as the F-105 I finished a few months ago.

Great progress so far Scott. Looks like another winner in the making. Thanks for sharing.

Regards, Rick

looks like its almost ready to kick some butt

Good looking rhino there.

Very nice build! I like seeing you guys build these giant models as I havent the room for them, but seeing them makes me want one now!

Thanks guys, I appreciate the comments. It only looks like it’s getting close to done, lots and lots of exterior detail left to do. I have the ejection seats and nose gear mostly done, but have the main gear, all the stores, canopies, lights, some cockpit details, and most of an Eduard exterior detail set left to add. Also … the burner cans and I still haven’t figured out the best way to handle them. Got some good ideas from the guys in the painting area, but I’ll have to see what works.

NIce work there Music, I am contemplating starting a Tamiya F-4D that I have had for several years… how did yours go together?

nice…ive always loved building f-4`s,wish mine came out as good though…brian

Great job there Scott , i’ll try and get mine finished soon

excellent bird! i just bought the same kit this past week along with trumpeter’s 1/32 mig-21(should make for a good dio). keep up the good work.

btw, any fit problems with the kit you noticed?

Looking great Scott!
Those 1/32 kits take a long time to complete don’t they. [;)]
I will find out when I get around to doing my Tamiya F-15E 1/32.

Mike

Again, thanks guys. I appreciate the positive comments very much.

Apparently the only “Fit Problems” that they missed were a couple of parts that did go together properly. This thing has been one minor fit problem after another. Someone makes aftermarket resin intake trunks for it for around $20. Take my advice, splurge for them! Other than that there is nothing major, just seam fixing and a good amount of sanding. Don’t get me wrong, it’s a good kit but they could have done a lot better.

I’m only 2 months into this one, Mike. My F-105 took four months so I’ve still got a couple left [:)] They take a lot of time because there is so much detail. Detail is what brings one alive to me, so that’s what I enjoy and why I like to build the big ones.

next time i’m through nashville, i’m comin’ by to drool friend!![;)][tup] great progress scott!! it seems that the F-4 is coming around a tad quicker that the 105? sweet progress, cant wait to see the rest. later.

Good to see you back again. I figured you were repairing damage all over the place 24 hours a day.

I don’t think it’s really coming together faster than the F-105 did. I looked at the progress pix of that one and I had it painted and the decals on at 180 hours, and that’s about where I’m at on this one.

Bring yourself on up this way [:)] Pack up some of your stuff and be here on October 23. There is supposed to be a model show although I haven’t been able to find any details on it. Regardless, we’ll find something to do. Several hobby shops in the area [;)]

I have taken a break from my ‘J’.
I got the Eduard PE kit as well ,that took more work than the Tamiya bits.
I must finish the weapons and get on with the markings - the bit I hate most!!!
They do look nice, though, but I think I will stick to 1/48th in future.

To do 1/48TH HASE
1 F4J
1 RF4
1 F4G
1 F4E
1 FGR2

1/72 FUJIMI

18 FGR1/2 - I got a bit carried away - the only cost £2 each !

thanks scott, i’ll keep that in mind. maybe the time is just going by too fast lately and it just seems its coming together quicker. i’ve been out of town for the last week on the coast with my equipment…diggin’ out peoples homes from about 4’ of sand…kind a like a snow storm, but the sand don’t melt.LOL i’m still comin’ around when i get the chance. later.

I built the F-4D and the only problems I had was with the intakes. Trying to get the inside gap filled and sanded was a royal PITA. The rest of the kit just fell together with very little filling or sanding. I did not use any after market parts, only kit parts.

Yeah, I can relate to the PE. I got the exterior set as well as the ejection seat set. I don’t do figures well and without them the seats just looked naked.

I’ve built a few F-4’s over the years, but this is my first 1/32 version.

I kinda figured that was the case. I have another friend who was down there and he mentioned the same thing. Looked just like a blizzard of sand.

Berny, good to see you got through the hurricanes OK. Hope you didn’t have any damage.

Looking nice Scott!

Looks almost done and very impressive. I’m dreaming of building a Phantom this big and seeing your build makes me wish for one now.
