This is fairly typical for the F-16CJ:
Ok “seasick”, let me get something straight…if you want to suggest how you want other modelers to build their models you should go about it another way, since your current method just makes me want to change it in a way to annoy you even more. You might try offering something like this…"hey Marmaduke I really like how you’ve done what not with the thingamajig but I’ve noticed that your ordinance may not be correct. Here are some pictures to help! " On a side note, I don’t really care what is exactly right, I just care that I am happy with how it turned out. Maybe if more people were equally supportive and helpful on this forum, there would be more contributing members.
sorry guys.
The AIM-120 on the wing tips drives me nuts. I know its correct but something in the back of my head only wants to see AIM-9 on the wing tips. Seasick, I’m in total agreement. Does anyone know if it’s for aerodynamic reasons? Seems to me an AIM-120 being heavier than an AIM-9, it should be under the wing. But heck, what do I know? Beautiful job, marmaduke. I’ve got the Academy version in my stash. Probably need to add another room for my 1:32 kits.
Nice looking Lawn Dart! Sweet! I’d love to play with one of those Tamiya gems. Thanks for sharing, mate.
Looks like Sidewinders (AIM-9) on the wing tips to me… Uhhh, you are talking about the model, right, Straycat?
Outstanding job, by the way, Marmaduke! I’ve got the Academy 1/32nd version in the stash, and I hope that mine comes out half as good as yours did.

Actually, Dawg, I was referring to the reference photos Seasick posted above that show the AIM-120’s on the wingtip rails. Marmaduke’s got the AIM-9’s there on his kit which I think looks better. I’m just wondering why current -16’s carry the -120’s on the wing tips. Is it an aerodynamic reason? Weight and balance? Curiouser and curiouser.
That’s a lovely looking build, certainly better than the 72nd F-16 I have just finished. Great job all round.
Straycat-Googled the question (my original guess was aerodynamic reasons contributing to better gas mileage) and found several answers. All seem to be logical and suggest it’s for aerodynamic reasons. It does look odd though!
