Please tell me what scheme to use. I am perplexed. I have done 5-1:48 corsairs and my favorite is all sea blue. I want it to be land based, Pacific theatre. What do you all think?
Well, in my opinion, if your favorite is all sea blue, then paint it all sea blue. Model it as you like it. That’s the way I do mine. They may not be 100% historically accurate, but I like them the way I paint them. After all, you’re the artist and it’s your subject to make look however you want it to.
My two cents worth, at least.
According to Detail & Scale, most F4U-1D Corsairs were delivered in glossy sea blue. At sea, the gloss quickly faded. Therefore, you could do the gloss, & “weather” the topsides w/ a flat finish. That way, you would have some variation to your favorite scheme. Good luck !
If it is all sea blue, is the belly white?
The overall glossy sea blue was applied near the end of the Pacific war. The entire airframe, minus landing gear, gear bays, interior, was painted in this color. White was only used in the tri-color schemes (flat sea blue top surfaces, intermediate blue horizontal surfaces, & flat white undersides minus outer folding wing), and Atlantic anti-sub schemes (no Corsairs in this scheme). The tri-color was in use during delivery of the F4U-1A. I’m not sure which varient the 1/32 kit is, but these are the schemes I have found. Hope this helps !
turn it into a jap!
I think that you must finish your kit as you want. Personally think that the most beautifull scheme is three color. Just enjoy modelling.
