To pass the time with a true “simple” build and get myself motivated for some upcoming projects due to the instigation of an online modeling buddy from another site I started on one of Trumpeters US Bombs sets. Kind of hit and miss. Some of the stuff looks great and some is poorly shaped compared to the real thing. But since I got it for a good price and do not plan on using the worst ones anyways this project is doing exactly as it should, getting me psyched up for some 1/32 jets…
Unlike most companies, Trumpeter does have the habit of adding just about every conceivable weapon that an aircraft might carry to the kit box… these are all the weapons from the 1/32 Su-25UB kit.
you certainly get your money’s worth with them, even if the research and molding is wrong. A couple of their kits will equip a small airforce.
Just a small note, its ORDNANCE, ordinance is a type of law.

Dre, you are right Trumpeter is the anitdote for Hasegagwa’s miserly approach to ORDNANCE 
The first project up to use some of this stuff is gonna be a Skyhawk. I will be using the Shrikes. Man I wish they would do a Sovet Weapons set like that in 1/48.
Trumpeter includes a pile of Russian ordnance in their 1/48 Mig-23 kits.
Dont tease me now… so does Eduard with their MiG-21… so nice!!!

I dont do much in 1/32 aircraft. They take up so much display space. But since I moved and thinned out some stuff, re arranged some other stuff, and with a little prodding from my buddy, I am going down that route again… I did do pretty much all 1/32 aircraft while I was overseas in 2005, because display space was not an issue there But that did give me the bug for those big beautiful kits.
There is something very appealing about that scale… must be the sheer size.
Agreed… not to mention the detail you can get into most anything… they can sure look impressive
Yesterday I finally finished up building all the items in my two Trumpeter 1/32 US Weapons sets… yay!
needless to say it was a lot of repetitive work over the past two weeks. Quality varies on the various weapons, some are spot on, and some leave you wondering if Trumpeter did any real research. it’s not like dumb bombs are classified and their shapes not well known…
so lets break it down…
dumb bombs- low drag… The Mk.82s are off a bit in shape but the M117s… yikes… not cylindrical bodied, but ogival here… DOH!!! and of course Trumpeter does not provided enough standard fuses for all the bombs in the kit, so you have to have some with daisy cutter extended fuses, or (once the idea finally popped into my head) cut down some of t he fuse extenders… see if you can spot them…
oh yeah, doing a bit of research on the Mk.84s reveals that these are actually AIR (air inflatable retarded), not slicks, but incorrect aft of the fins, not too difficult a fix, but really?
the “retards”… Mk. 82 Snakeeyes (my favorite looking bomb), and Mk. 82/Mk. 83 AIR “Ballutes” (balloon parachute)… the Snakes are decent, but the Ballutes are better. You can tell they came from a later set.
CBUs- Mk.20 Rockeyes, and SUU-29Bs… the box label the 29s as M117s (even more off from those than the other set), but the instruction sheet labels them as SUU-29s. The Rockeyes are quite nice!
Again, Trumpeter missed the proper shape of the bomb body, and forgot to add the little outer portions of the fins. I added them with strip styrene
Smart bombs- the HOBOs and Walleyes are very well done, but the GBU-10 LGBs are a bit soft on some detail
and guided missiles
EO guided missiles, Maverick and SLAM are very nicely done
the Radar Homing/Radio guided HARM, Shrike, and Bullpup are also very well done…
MERs, TERs, LAUs are nicely done as well
and the pair of AIM-9D/Gs are good
So all in all a pleasant past couple of weeks putting these all together, but a bit disappointing in some areas… all this for one upcoming build, the rest was just for the fun of it… now cue Black Sabbath bass guitar and drum… bum bum bum bum Bowwwwwwwwwwwwwww
