hiya–remember to check out the differences with the tail and antenna arrangement between the two. I recall that the -N model has a different shaped protrusion sticking out the back at the base of the vertical tail…think of where the brake parachute would be on foreign versions, right below the rudder. If memory serves, the -N has an antenna that is taller when compared to the -C. The -N models had no gun, no airborne self-protection jammer system, and are not capable of carrying any live missiles, so any antennas for those systems have to go. They still had the cannon fairing/vent/muzzle opening. The plane also used the APG-66 radar found in the F-16A, the ALR-69 radar warning receiver, and ALE-40 chaff/flare dispenser. I list those so that you can research and verify what each looked like in regards to the airframe.
If you plan on making the plane with the Air Combat Maneuvering Instrumentation pod(looks kinda like a Sidewinder without the fins, but not exactly), be sure to put it on the right wingtip, and not the left. The -N could only carry it on the right tip station.
Thank you for that info! I did plan on adding the ACMI pod, though I was not aware that it could only be carried on the right station. Also, the info on the antennas, weapons systems, and tail is much appreciated! Looks like I have much research to do yet for this one. Thank you very much for the assist. [^]
I just checked my Academy F-16. But I am using the large intake and GE engine. Its going to be a wild weasel. If someone is planning on the small intake & PW engine, let me know…Harvb
Frank it sounds like the Hasegawa kit would be a better starting point to build an F-16 N though it might be a little les detailed than the Tamiya kit. It comes with the small intake only and both exhaust nozzles for either engine. Just a thought.
Thanks SC. Looks like an “N” is out of the running for me, as the decals I have are for a Block 30 as opposed to the “N”. I thought since it was an Aggressor, it must be an F-16N but the new ones are fairly standard -30’s. Thanks for the help! [:D]
