1/25 AMT Bulldozer **FINISHED**

Following! I’ve always looked at this kit.

Don: I was just in HL the other day to pick up some paint and boy does the model aisle look much different than it was even a year ago. It was fully stocked with everything from styrene and brass for scratch building to tools. Also noticed HL is starting to stock a few kits from manufacturers like Atlantis and airfix that I haven’t seen there before.

Been working on the frame and engine the past week or so. Ended up adding some fuel lines to give it a little more detail.

Not really news. HL has been carrying Airfix and some Atlantis stuff for a while now. I wonder how long they are going to keep the increasingly emptying decrepit Model Master racks, now that the supply is drying up. The ones at my closest HL have about 60% colors available. The only ‘new’ thing I’ve seen in the model aisle since the end of the 40% coupons a few weeks ago is the Bandai Transformers kits. The local store had a Revellogram 1/48 B-17 for the first time in a long time when I was there last week. Anyway, good luck with your dozer. They weren’t a bad deal if you could snag one at 40% off.

Some three-bar ‘street’ cleats would be nice, or even just double-cleat grousers.

Mind, Fruil would find a way to make us add the grousers to the chain, too.

For those wanting some good go-by on how to weather these beasts, check out Western Truck & Tractor Repair on youtube. (Note, occasionally salty language)

Hello!

Cool build, I wish I picked one of those babies up when they recently reissued them… Cooler still would be to have something like that in 1/35 to make a Rome Plow out of… But that’s very hard to come by…

Good luck with your build and have a nice day

Dozers are so cool. I have 3 waiting to be built.

Jamie at Moluminum has resin track sets and various other accessories for the AMT D8 kit.

I have 2 track sets, cab guards, belly pans, and a winch.

Will be watching this build.

What did you use for the base color on the tracks and blade? They look great!

Hey Don.

I used layers of artist oils over some iron oxide acrylic paint to create a good rusty base for under the paint.

then used hairspray technique for paint weathering and more artist oils.

Looking great Keyserj!

Keep up the good work.

PANZERJAGER

Forgot to grab some progress pics from the past two weeks but there was some good weather the past few days and I was able to get the dozer painted with cat yellow farm paint. Tracks got a coating of burnt umber and still need some work done on them.

CapnMac82:

Oh, you are so right! But they would still be gorgeous on that machine.

Was just on ebay and saw metal tracks, $45.00, shipped. Says already primed and ready to paint.

Search AMT D8.

Howdid you do the radiator area? Did you just use one of the decals, or did you do some scatch work there?

I had ordered a set of the metal tracks on the 10th, and they arrived today. Look great, primed and ready to go. Instructions appear to be okay.

The seller was great to deal with

Thanks, ordered a set.

Just used one of the kit decals. I do know there is a realistic am radiator set.

Nice find GH. Recently saw a d8 like this one laying tile drains in a field while I was on vacation last week and the tracks on eBay look just like the ones on the dozer irl.

Next time HL puts kits on 40%, got to grab one.

John - let us know what you think of them when you get them.

Adding the hydraulic lines was a real pain in the butt but it came out well. I felt the area where the driver would sit was missing something so I ended up adding a 12 pack of Pepsi and making the seat look like it had ripped and been taped up. Overall super fun project and may go back to this kit in the future and build a forest service dozer.

I have one of these half built. I need to get back to it. This is amazing work and I love the modifications that were added.
