I’ve never been so happy.
I emailed Trumpeter last week, saying that my Airfix Harriers GR.3 & FA.2 look quite lonely without a GR.7 to go with it.
So i asked the Kings of all things huge if there was any chance of them tooling a modern day Harrier AV-8B / GR.7
And they said yes, it would be a future release
I cant wait for the kit, and the many add-ons that will most definatly be released for it
FlankersRule,
Darn, don’t you just hate it when that happens! About three years ago, I spent nearly 12 months converting the old 1/24 Airfix Harrier into the UK GR7. Only about 1/4 of the original kit was used - scratchbuilt wings, much extended fuselage, new nozzles, new tail, totally scratch cockpit and MB seat, new nose, reworked Aden gun packs, scratch pylons and pods, crash-moulded canopies …
Ah well…
ouch man, i bet that was an expensive conversion. I know the kits are around £60 each here in the UK. but i was lucky, i got my kits for £20 each. i can still get the FRS.1 for £19.99. but i aint got any space for another one.
with the exception of maybe a GR.7 and a T.10 hehehe
then i will have to make room.
long live the harrier

Nope, all scratchbuilt! No brass, resin cockpits, posh seats - nuffin! All done with plastic card, Milliput and clear styrene sheet. Cost? About £7.50! I have no problem with using update sets at all, but once in a while I like to have a go at proper model building, rather than simply fitting update bits and pieces. At the time I did this one, there was nothing available anyway! With all that Milliput, it does weigh quite a bit, though…
I’ve just got a new digital camera, so I’ll have a go soon to take a photo and post it for you.
looking forward to them.
Scratchbuilding is something i would like to get into. I have an obsession with wanting a 1/24th scale Fiat G.91 “Gina”
But there is no way could i build one. I bought that book Scratch Built. And it is the worst thing i have spent money on.
Lots of glossy photos of some truley remarkable aircraft… but does it tell you how to start scratchbuilding for begginers? does it sh*t.
If someone wrote a book for begginers, or even CD-ROM in this day and age. They would probably make a fortune
Actually a couple of years back (2001 or 2002) there was an excellent article in FSM on how to scratchbuild a bipe.
As for starting I have a couple of suggestions for you :
The cheapest way to experiment scratchbuilding ; is to download one of the many, many free papermodels you can find on the net ( for instance here ), don’t expect a masterpiece as your first result though.
The second way is to buy one of those wood plane models, and replace the wood by styrene.
Always know that you are on uncharted territory, what you do is new, because someone else will probably approach a problem with another solution, and the main thing Have Patience…
