Anyone have any experience w/ these large and costly kits—are they worth the money? I am specifically looking at the 109’s…might like the G-6 early version…
I’m slllooowwwlllyyy building a P51-D for a friend of mine. I think it’s fantastic, the engine is a wonder, and I’ve had no problem finding PE and resin parts for it. Recommended.
This one is a lot of work and needs care and attention. FW 190 D-9 from Trumpeter. Amarket includes Verlinden resin kit , Eduard Bf 109 placards , Eduard guages , lots of additional bits etc.
I read there were accuracy issues with the 109 series,last one I saw was in the bargain bin for $50,I didn’t buy it .

I see accuracy issues with the Mustang as well, but the alternative is Airfix/ Heller at big scale, and the quality of the Trump casting is soooo much better. (I have all three).
I have done the P-51(Hobbycraft boxing), came with 3 resin figs. Shape did seem a bit off, but that don’t bother me none. Another useless feature is the working “spring” in the main gears, major PITA. I ended up glueing them because the wheels would cant outwards when the model was set down. I’d build another though.
These are minor issues ,the same as the D-9 . I used aluminum welding rod to rigidize the lg. There are curved ‘hinges’ on the engine ,gun panels really ,really minor things. The cockpit/engine alignment is tricky ,but the end fit is fine…
However you look at it, it’s better than Classic Airframe’s 1/24 P-40… uugh. the cockpit is about 1/3rd of the depth it should be… and it has massive trench lines… The Trumpy kit will seem like nothing after that beast.
I am having a hard time finding the kit I want from them: the early G-6…there are plenty of late G-6’s but I really wanted the early version…
…they also have a slew of 1/32nd a/c out there…the price ranges are all over the board. A MiG 17 is $21 but some of the others are nearing $100 !!!
I have a pair of the 15/17s (single seat and two seater), they are pretty basic, none of the features of some of their newer releases. Parts count is fairly low also, compared to the newer stuff. I sarted both, with the pits, but lost interest and just restashed them. They’ll probably stay there!!!
Yeah, after posting that I researched some online reviews and they are basically garbage–hence the low prices…they were the first Trumpy released, I believe…I just read about the fairly new Hobbyboss 48th scale MiG-17 and it seems to be a winner…
Manny, having nearly all of them, imo the best of the Trumpy 1/24th series are the Hurricanes.
Only one of the 109’s is closest in correctness, and I can’t remember exactly which one, I want to say the G series
