1/24 chain link fence

Anyone know a way to make a good looking 1/24 or 1/25 or even 1/20 chain link fence to use as a backdrop to my model F-1 and Champcars?

I’ve got some diamond-shaped nylon mesh that would be perfect for chain-link fence. Check out a local fabric store. That is where I found mine.

Heres what I would do- You know how chain link is made, one strand of bent steel woven into another. Figure out the scale length of the bends, make a jig and then weave them together with some florist wire. It would blow any judge away, and leave em shaking thier heads. The poles and top rails would be easy enough, as the hardware, (fastening wire, straps, etc…) I think it could be pulled off in a couple of nights.

I think I might try it…

That’s an awesome idea Steve! If done right it WOULD look really good because it would look authentic. And after you put a crowd photo behind it, and a 1/20 Williams BMW screaming past it, it would turn some heads!

Thanks,
Jake

After having scratch built 24 feet of mesh railing for two, 4-1/2 foot long, 1/96th scale ship models, I know what tedium is. Building your own chain-link, this is something I’ve got to see!

So it is written…so it shall be done. I will let you all know how it goes if it doesn’t kill me!!

On a 1/48th diorama I used some mesh from an old exterior window screen to simulate a chain-link fence. Would this idea work for you?
