1/24 Aifix Stuka B-2

Hi All,

Since I was a kid, I’ve always wanted to build a BIG Stuka. Being primarily a ship builder, with a few WW II aircraft occasionally thrown in for a change of pace, I’m not totally familar with the quality of all the aircraft kits out there. As far as I can recall, I’ve never built an Airfix aircraft kit.

So, has anyone built Aifix’s 1/24 Stuka B-2 ?
If so, is it a good kit ?
Are there any PE or resin detail kits available for it ? (I couldn’t find any in 1/24 scale)

Thanks,

Ted

Beware… Its a big bird, and the Airfix 24th scale Airfix kits are a mixed bag of quality, but they’re big enough to do some simple scratch building, though not much is really needed. I have the 1:24 Fw-190. Lots of bits, but also some warping in the fuselage and wings. Keep an eye out for Trumpeter. They’ve got some large kits on the way. Not sure if there’s a stuka though.

Alternativly, you can always try the Tamiya et. al. 1:32 ones. Still big.

i built the 1/24th stuka quite a few years ago (when the molds were new) and had no real problems with it. he only one that i remember is that one of the flaps was lightly warped but a little bending soon sorted it. hope this helps. Greg

IMHO, The Stuka and the Hurricane were the two best that Airfix did in the 1/24 scale series.

But, having said that I must also admit that I haven’t seen the Sea Harrier kit yet.

Thanks for the responses, guys.

I won’t mind doing a little scratchbuilding, I was figuring on having to do some anyway because of the lack of detail kits and PE in that scale. As far as the the occasional warped part goes, guess I’ll have to take my chances. Hopefully, it won’t be anything I can’t fix.

Thanks again,

Ted
