Hi,
I am looking for some advice on a problem i am having with my Tamiya 1/16 tiger 1 ( r/c version ) and wondered if any one could help?
The problem i am having is with the gun elevation motor crank ( part J2 )
it has cracked where it locates onto the output shaft. I have got a new part on order from a tamiya parts stockist but i am concerned that this might be a problem that keeps arising because of the material the crank is made from?
and at £13.99 a pop could prove a bit expensive in the long term.
Has any one who has built the r/c version of this kit had any problems with this bit of the kit and if so how did you resolve it.
I have not had the problem that you describe but i have had problems with gun elevation unit, just like everyone else who own a Tiger I and use it. My problem was the slip clutch ( Im not sure that the right word ) wore out pretty quickly, so every time I tried to elevate or lower the gun the motor just spun but nothing happened.
I locked the slip clutch with CA glue, and then attached 2 micro switches to the gun elevation arm inside the turret. These switches wil turn the motor off ones the gun reaches maximum elevation or depression. You have to add a diode to each micro switch so the current can run the other way when the switch is activated, other wise the gun will be stuck. this arrangement minimizes the wear on the gun elevation unit and I haven’t had any problems with it since.
I have had mine for 3 years, and use it regularly ( well not at present, im rebuilding it )
