1/16 T-34's are IN!

There was a BIG box left by Fed Ex on the porch yesterday, my 1/16 scale T-34/76 Model 1942 (late) [:p][:p][:D]. First thing I did was open it to make sure that it had a full interior as shown on the Trumpeter web page… Yes. All there! So far, it looks like it will be a great kit and a lot of fun to build.
I’m clearing my ‘in progress’ projects away for now and am going to make this one OOB… I hope it will be as fun as it looks.

Just a few observations: Machine Gun racks are PE parts as is the screen over the cooling fan. The tank has waffle tracks (I’d have preferred plate). The later hull machine gun mount is fitted and I haven’t looked into back dating it. There is no applique armor, but that will be easy to add along with a few grab bars. For you RC fans, You’ll have to get working indi tracks for it or drill and pin the kit tracks. Other than that, I think it could be done. But I LOVE interiors!!!

Price with shipping: $129 US from Hobbyland. Not bad considering the price of a good 1/35 scale kit (around $60 or more at times) with a full interior, which I like.

Well, gotta run, gotta build!![:D] (Gotta pack for a trip to Germany for three weeks on Wednesday… non-Guard related, still on alert though. )

Best to all!

My Big Box from HobbyLand is due on Monday, also the 1942 version. These are great
folks to deal with,by the way.Used them for 6+ years& always “First Class Service”!
I’m also building SOOB,&hope to sharpen up my finishing skills on this project.
Not just a Tiger Target ,though. I’m real curious about how it fits, anybody done any
“dry fitting”& seen any big problems? Hope this is a sign of more 1:16 to come!!!

I saw the link to Military Hobbies in the FSM newsletter. They have it for the same price with free shipping. It was all I could do to keep my finger off the button. I may still, it’s so tempting…Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!
It seems like a lot of stuff for $130.
Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhrrrrggghghghghghhhhhhhh!
Got to build the Tiger I first, and finish the M4…

Are you going to build this R/C or static Ron?

i’m definetly thinking about getting one of these! if i ever get the money, i will get one, make it an rc version, bb gun in the main gun too [:D] bit much, but probaly well worth it

I just got the 1943 version today.[8D] It looks awesome in the box. In fact opening the box at the store convinced me to get it. Hope to start on it within the next couple of days.[:D][:D][:D][:D]

I’ve been assembling the ‘subassemblies’ and it has all fit great! No problems. I mistook the tracks though, they snap together and are movable. The only thing I found missing was the oil cooler (a smaller radiator over the left coolant radiator)… who knows, maybe the cooler on the tank I drove was a post WWII modification (this T-34/85 was rebuilt in 1975 and there was a later style crew heater in it.

I modified the gun cradle so that the 76mm could recoil and am adding the injector lines, called ‘high pressure fuel lines’ in the manual, to the engine. I’m still up in the air about interior color. I’ve seen photos of cream interiors, but talked to WWII Soviet tank men who said theirs was gray inside. Decisions, decisions.

Renarts, not going to do RC. I’m not an RC fan myself and probably wouldn’t have bought the kit if it didn’t have the interior. I guess that’s what I get for playing with so much 1:1 scale armor…

I’m hoping for more offerings like this from Trumpeter and am looking forward to doing the T-34/85!

Ron

Oh, I’m also going to add applique armor on at least the front slope, give it that ‘combat vet’ appearance.

Cheers all! This is a really great kit, you have to see / build it to believe it.

Ron

Thanks for the heads up. I read a review, well many, and everyone is excited. I don’t really have the space for a 1/16 kit, but maybe this one. Make sure you get us some pics ASAP.

Zokissima, I’ll try to get some photos, but may not be able to get a digital still camera with school out. I’m sure enough folks are making this to get some really good shots.

I just got off of the AFV interiors page and decided on the cream interior (white with dust from use)… It looks like the one provided to the British was painted this way inside (so the Trumpeter paint suggestions should be fairly close. It also looks as if the floor ammo bins are gray. I’ll go with that.

Welcome roowalker to the forums.

Ron are you building this for an upcoming workbench review for FSM?

Thanks for the welcome guys. On T-34 interior color,I was inside a T-34-85
at Quantico back in 1973, it was on outside display at the Basic School parking
lot and someone,NOT ME,got a hatch open on the turret.Great to play with both
traverse&elevation mechs. Anyhow, it was definitly an off white[antiquewhite]
color. I’m going with Floquil Antique White [Railroad Color] in mine.
D’ont know where the T-34 came from, but Isuspect Korea.
