Hello. Dont mean to ask for too much but…
I was interested to converting the Trumpeter T-34/85 into a motorized vehicle.
Looking on the net reveals only Tamiya R/C Kits such as the Tiger. I am just looking for the R/C motor and radio set that would fit the 1/16 scale T-34. While chatting with the LHS owner, he mentioned something about Tamiya making 1/16 R/C motors.
Where do I turn to?

if yo want to convert Trumpeter t34 into rc version, you need to use tamiya gearbox and DMD. or all full option stuff to make it all singing all dancing.

Now, if I wanted to slap the Tamiya gearbox and DMD module into the 1/16 T-34, would I have to make any surgical improvements to the model, or are is the Tamiya gear standard for all 1/16 models and not just the Tiger?

One of the US guys did a whole review of what needs work on the T34 kit. You can catch them over on Yahoo in ArmorNutsRCArmorHut.
You have a better start with the RC Wasan/Mitsuwa one… the turret traverse beats anything Tamiya has made.
They even have pictures of their conversions, and some of them are doing battle this weekend in Danville Virginia.
