Does anybody know where I can find tracks that are not rubber bands for 1:16 scale M16 by Trumpeter?
The prototype tracks are essentially a rubber band so anything else would be less accurate.
Here’s a real M16 track:

Note: no sag and one continuous piece of rubber.
Steel reinforced too.
And a royal pain in the butt to change!
I understand, thanks, but what comes with the kit isn’t flexible enough to make it fit right. The small wheels at the bottom are very fragile.
Yeah the kit tracks could double as a fan belt in a pinch… I’m hoping someone will take a chapter from dragon and make an AM set that are hard plastic, otherwise i may recast mine in resin so they can be heated and bent around and be tight…
I wondered about that after seeing those pics and working on their 1/35th’s. How would they react after being in some hot water? Still unworkable?
Amen, K-dawg.
Sounds good, keep me in mind.
Panther F: I will keep that in mind but I’m going to try something I saw on another site (http://www.perthmilitarymodelling.com/reviews/vehicles/trumpeter/tr00911_02.html) bottom of page. It sounds interesting.
I tried the hotwater trick just messing around with mine and it took so much heat to get them flexible you couldn’t stand to hold’em… they’re THICK!! Another option would be a tedious glue and clamp session and even that might not work…
I was just thinking out loud. It’s a much different situation when you have the kit in front of you.
After reading ALL posts and comments, setting up a jig to the shape the tracks need to be in and heat them with a hair dryer or hot water and allow them to cool to install them might be another direction.
That’s a good idea… You could make a jig out of dowls and a piece of wood and then heat the crap out of them and they might hold their shape… Good thinking
Been there, done that.
Just watch the heat of a hair dryer. I’ve melted one side of vinyl tracks before!! [sigh]

Hi, Dante, Terry here again, I’m going to post a commom thread. If you have lost my mail address I’ll leave you this one, I can get to this on my phone as well, terry35@gmail.com best of luck. Let me know if your interested in getting on common ground with putting some of these problems to bed while the kit is still new.
Terry.
