1/16 MG Gunner in great coat

Hi all, took a long break from modelling about a year.

Since I have not submit a fig in any comp before, therefore decided to read some references and volia!!! A german MG gunner in great coat from Tamiya, my idea is from some materials about fellow soldiers bury their brothers, friends or comrades in a battlefield. Since there is not much materials for making a marked grave, to simplified things, I used the mp40 supplied in the kit as it’s marking for the grave.

Without further ado, on to the pictures:

Any comments or critics is welcome!

Thanks in advance!

Well, the MP40 might have been used that way, but you don’t have enough of the barrel “in the ground” to hold it in that position. Also, it would make looking at your pictures easier if you turned them right side down.

Be careful of your eyes. One iris is much flatter than the other one. To check them, turn the fiigure away from you and look at the face in a mirror.

In general, I think you need to push your highlights and shadows a lot more. Your figure is very monochromatic to begin with, so it really cries for additional depth.

Truthfully, I had no idea it (the MP-40) was a grave marker until you explained it. Neither will anone else, I fear…

You might consider adding an improvised marker hanging on the SMG with the ID tag info on it, incuding the date of death (in German, of course)… Finding another helmet to add to the SMG buttstock would go a long way in helping explain as well…

Although it has no bayonet lug, the MP-40 could be emplaced by tying a bayonet to it… But… Units weren’t in the practice of marking graves with the weapons, either… A mkeshift cross or some such was the norm… The weapon/helmet combo was usually reserved for a unit memorial service…

I agree…I have never seen a ref showing the Germans to use an MP40 as a gravemarker—I suspect that the gun would be viewed as too valuable for that purpose…I would lose the gun altogether and scratch a German field-grave marker…the fig itself seems to be very monotone in a bluish color…It may just be the photography…anyways, I need a better view before I could comment much more on the fig…

Hi all, thanks for the valuable feedback.

Have replaced the weapon with a make-shift marker, as for the figure, guess I need to improved on the highlighting and shadow again in my next project.

Here is the better pictures again (I hope), if not do let me know again. Thanks for the valuable feedback again.
