Nice Shuttle. Is this the Revell kit? How was it? Is it the stand that comes with the kit or di you scratchbuilt it?
HI YANNSOLO, Its actually an airfix kit. It was fairly straight forward to build except i thought that the parts were a bit of a pain. Certain bits didnt fit, had to scrape/cut them to fit. Wouldn’t recommened this kit. Maybe it was just me, but i didnt really like this kit, to build i mean. It came with the stand, same again the two bits for the stand didnt fit, had to add putty to cover the gaps.
Overall it looks pretty good when its finshed. Decals were fairly straight forward to fit…
would have preferred /forums/712665/ShowPost.aspx narupols kit
its also pre 1999, discovery, the one that took hubble into earths orbit.
7/10

Yeah, those issues are a pain when they are not expected. That’s why I like to read reviews of kits or opinions of other modelers before buying them. I may still buy them but at least I know what to expect from the kit.
You seem to have solved all the fit problems. How is it as far as accuracy?
WOW ! She’s loking GOOD so for
Keep it up
Bud
As far as accuracy goes, yeah it seems to be ok. I thought when it was built i wouldnt get it to fit properly on the Main fuel/booster rocket, as 4 holes need to align. But no it fits great.
It is a good kit, just a pity about the bits that didnt fit proper.

Looking good there, bud! [8D]
Nice work on the Airfix Shuttle. One of these days I’ll get around to building mine.
Of the three 1/144 scale shuttles out there, Airfix is probably the best all-around choice. I’ve heard there are problems with the windows, but it’s dimensionally pretty good. The wheel wells are boxed in and have a realistic depth. The payload bay is utter crap and should be built closed.
I built the Revell “Discovery Return to Flight” shuttle stack w/ my dad back in '89 (my, how the times have changed!) The kit is fairly accurate but really can’t be built with wheels down due to the shallow wheel bays. There are big fit problems where the wings join the fuselage, and the engines are worthless (luckily, we have Cutting Edge & RealSpace to come to the rescue.) The circumferential bands on the ET should be sanded off (I believe that these really appear on the tank, but they get covered over by the foam.)
The Minicraft/Entex kit is the lest desirable of the three, IMHO, due to the too-pointy nose on the orbiter. But I must admit that I like the shape of the payload bay best of the three.
One issue with all three kits is the barren nature of the ET’s provided. For a realistic-looking ET, you’ll have to study the photos and build many of the foam ramps from scratch.
great looking model!
i am about to start the same airfix kit, hope it turns out as good as yours.
do you have the assembly instructions?? mine have been lost and i can’t seem to find a set anywhere?
please can you email them??
She so clean and clear… sir
