1/144 Qantas A380...Finished!

Does anybody know where I can get a set of decals for a Qantas A380 in 1/144?

Edit: Above was the original post, just going to reuse the thread for the build, see below

Yup here you go http://www.airline-hobby.com/shop/index.cfm?action=ViewDetails&ItemID=14581

Cool. Thanks!

Anytime.

FInally got time to sit down and buy it. Thanks again 9x19mm! I couldn’t help myself and besides the A380 and Qantas decals, I picked up one of the Zvezda 787s

Make sure and post pics during the build!

Stay tuned has I build this beast! Should start her up in the next week or so. Got to finish up a couple of GBs, which are in the painting stage, but might start this before, you never know.

The build begins!!! I put sheet plastic behind the windows for support for the upcoming putty that will fill in the windows, since the Qantas decals come with windows. Man there is a lot of windows! Put two of the four main wheel struts together, along with the nose wheel strut. These along with the inner combustion chamber for the engines aer waiting for a coat of alunnmim. The decal sheet also provides windows for the cockpit, so I assembled the cockpit tub provided and am going to leave it unpainted, since I just going to use it for structure support.

Here’s a couple of pics.

That is about as far as I got a few months ago, then got busy trying to do some flying. It’s a cool kit, great work so far and keep us posted.=

Made a little progress. Got the engine cores painted, and the fuselodge and wings have been glued together, just not to one another almost to that point though

Made a little and I do mean little, progress on the big airliner! Got the engines all together, minus the end exhaust cone. Windows have been puttied over, but I need to go back and fix some. I dry fitted the wings, and engines to the fuselodge to find any fit problems later. So without farther delay the dry fit: (Brings to mind a question, where on earth am I going to put her when done? She’s bigger than my 1/48 B-17!)

Wings have been attached and got her all ready to be painted. Still debating if’n I should put a gray primer on her first before the white goes on. Need to check seams and cover the landing gear and exhaust cones on the engines. Any way here she is all ready to be painted.

Windows all filled in:

The engines are in need of some paint

Nice build.

Thanks Halfpint33!

Progress update: got the first coat of white on her, definitely needs more than one.

After three coats of white, the tail was painted red. Though during the process of getting the tail painted, I broke off the lower half of the nose gear and the carpet monster ate it. After debating which I felt more angry about (breaking it off or losing it), I found another A380 kit on sale and its being shipped to me. A quick copy of the nose gear and good has new.

Then I started masking to paint the wings and what do you know I got to repaint the red on the bottom [:@] What’s that old saying, two steps forward, one step back? well I think at the moment its two back, one forward. Hopefully no more issues will arrise and things will go smoothly

The top looks good though, see for your self (note the nose down incline due to the broken nose gear)

Looking a really nice build, I built the very same kit but in Virgin Atlantic livery (dunno why) a couple of years ago. Look forward to the finished kit.

Scott.

She’s all painted. Now to go fix that broken nose gear.

She’s looking sweet, think I can almost hear the engines spooling up.

7474 - Thanks! The engines are actually on the side. Going to work on those after the airframe is done.

Got the nose gear fixed. Since I did break it off and luckly broke it off at the pivot point, I went ahead and turned the nose gear to the right. Deffintely will look different when done. Now here’s to hoping I don’t break this nose gear off.

OK so just ran into a dilemma. While working on the landing gear, I noticed that the kit supplied main gear doors for the ones attached to the fuselodge, are not right. According to pictures over at airliners.net, the doors are suppose leave a hole for the strut and be flush with the fuselodge, not to the side of the gear exposing the gear bay. Still undecided on whether I should modify the gear doors to make it look right or go with the kits instructions. [*-)]
