1/1000 Klingon D-7 decals?

I just finished construction and painting of Polar Light’s Klingon D-7 kit, and when I went to apply the decals they curled up and stuck to themselves.

I put a lot of work into this kit (rebuilding the photon torpedo launcher, sanding all those complex curves, post-shading and highlighting, drybrushing, etc.) and I’m reluctant to give up on it.

Does anybody have any idea where I could get replacement decals, or if there are dry transfers/stencils available for this kit? Help would be much appreciated.

Try the Starshipmodeler.com store, JBot.ca, or FederationModels.com. There are other sources, but those three are the first to come to mind.

Jbot makes some nice ones, but he’s apparently had computer problems and hasn’t answered e-mails or delivered orders since May. His web site says he’ll be back up for business this month.

At the Federation Models website (federationmodels.com), Aztek Dummy offers templates for the PL D-7, so you can paint on your markings instead of using decals.

Thanks much, gentlemen. You may have just saved a model from the dusty basement storage area.

Really, thanks.

I’ve got some decals for you. Send me a PM, or a e-mail.

Thanks for the offer, but a good friend of mine already came to my rescue. Mailed me a set just last month.

It’s funny, but I just put down a layer of glosscote on that model, to get the surface ready for the decals. [:)]

Thank you again for the kind offer - JC

No problem! I’m sure your friend is a good man. How’s the result?

McCready asked:

Yeah, he’s a good guy. A little crazy, but so am I, so it’s all good. [(-D]

I haven’t finished it yet. I normally don’t apply clear coats before I decal because too many layers can change the final finish. That’s what happened here. The Glosscote changed the models appearance slightly, so I’m giving it some time to see if I think it’s acceptable, or if I need to repaint some or all of it…

I’m probably just too picky. [sigh]

Thanks again for the offer. I appreciate it.

For me too!

Federation Models carries decals by JT Graphics.I highly recommend them!

Good luck!

Thanks u-boater. I have yet to apply those decals (still gunshy from the last time) so I’ll check those out.

I’d ask for the link, but I’ve been Rick-Rolled twice this week, and I’m not taking any chances…

Click on Decals, then click on JT Graphics and then scroll down.

Thanks Jeffrey.

Here is a great video article on the topic.

Didn’t understand what you were sending me to, at first, but finally got it. Yeah, I see a lot of that where links that have nothing to do with anything are concerned.

Sadly, you can literally waste hours on YouTube if you allow your mind to wander and don’t maintain some self-control… [:(]

Anyhow, happy to help.

[(-D] Be sure to pass it on.

GW:

Yeah. I guess. I really can’t relate, but I’ll take your word for it. Maybe you should just limit yourself to a couple hours a day?

I rarely go to YouTube, pretty much only go there when someone posts a link. There are some interesting and also some outright bizarre video’s posted there. Some very talented amateur CG artists have posted some Star Wars, Star Trek and BSG video’s that have links to more of the same video’s that lead you to try and watch them all…

Anymore, I just keep myself to the link at hand and don’t go cruising YouTube. Did that cruising of YouTube thing a few times over the last two years on those “slow days” when I wasn’t really focused on anything in particular and later noticed I’d been there for over two hour, but it only felt like maybe thirty minutes or so.

[(-D] I do the same thing, except wikipedia is my drug of choice…
