I couldn’t resist… I’ve been slacking in my attendance over the last few days, but I took my 1:1 scale Land Rover to the powers that be yesterday (9-11 of all days…), and got the all clear to finally go out and buy myself some license plates for it. i.e. my 1:1 scale kit has been given its road worthyness.

Okay… Some stats…
It took me 6 months to complete this kit, working on and off during evenings and over the weekend.
The basic kit came almost completely pre-assembled by the British Army, albeit somewhat loosly in places and its obvious that they deviated from the instructions here and there… Its quite clear that an amateur painted the thing, because there are several layers of paint on it, all of an enamel-ish nature, but you never can tell with these guys. They also couldn’t settle with one colour, because there seems to be a layer of camouflage under the final layer of brush painted (not airbrushed!) RAL 6013. I did however end up buying an extra litre of RAL 6013 from the local hardware store, just in case.
When I attached some vent seals, I used white glue, but I know I should have used something else, such as CA or even epoxy. All the parts fitted quite well, with no flash needing trimming, though the pieces that needed to be added to the rear cross member needed quite some work with a motor tool to get to fit properly. A fairly large amount of putty went into the various dents and (bullet?) holes… I’d say about a litre or so.
I added some aftermarket parts, such as some turned iron brake drums, windshield wipers and a small interiour detail kit which consisted of some seat straps and some seat belts. Very fine detail, but still a bit chunky for the scale. I had to add a new headlamp, because one on the kit was actually from a different vehicle, so I didn’t feel it had the proper authenticity… It also shon in a completely different direction.
The kit was well weathered using various materials such as mud, grease, oil (not artists oil, though…), underseal, moss, algae, sand, rust and a light frosting of cobwebs. The most recent addition was the set of license plate decals for the front and rear.
The model looks real. You did a very good job on it, but what is that ugly thing standing next to it?[:D][}:)][:D][}:)][B)]
I am also doing a 1:1 scals rebuild. Mine is a '85 VW GTI with 330,000 miles plus on it. I bought it new. I am rebuilding the clutch, installing new brakes,new struts, and new stearing and drive shafts. I have been working on it for about six months, off and on. Some parts arrived for it today, clutch cable and door handles.

Michaelvk, I have to say you did an outstanding job on that model! It looks just like the real thing. I was wondering what you used for the tarp over the bed. Is that tissue and white glue?? [:D] Very nice realistic weathering job too. You really captured the look on this one. [;)]
Oh, and the Dio is great too! That house in the background, did you use a photo backdrop or is it scratchbuilt?? [:D] [:D]

I was wondering if anyone here can give me an idea of what to use for the top?[:p][:p] I tried tissue paper but on “damp” days it kinda droops.
Hi Michaelvk , nice work. i wish my Landrovers looked that good, my series one is still in kit form and my lwb diesel series two/three hybrid (a bit of cross kitting going on there me thinks LoL ) looks like the weathering job from hell. as soon as i figure out how to use my digital camera i’ll post pics. p.s. my Rangerover is for sale - its the only one that looks good, its a black four door V8 beastie…later…Greg
I have a 1:1 Jeep Wrangler that I am working on. I have accumulated many tubes of putty to repair that hole that has appeared in my rear quarter (probably the result of too much glue at one time)…it will probably remain in the “unfinished” stage (as many of my other models) for at least a few years. I also have a 1993 Eagle Talon that I am starting to work on…imagine that, 2 kits at once. I will never finish them at this rate.[:D]

I like your Land Rover Michaelvk. I built a 1:1 scale kit too. Mine was of a 1942 Willys. I took a little longer to build mine about 5yrs and finished it in 1999. I want to put mine in a diorama but I can’t fine the proper setting. Just the other day I had placed it in a field up to its axles in mud but the symmetry just wasn’t right so I had to move it.
