Now THAT’S a model!

Darwin, O.F. [alien]

glad to see she’s finally done. they should make it fly, now that would be a fine tribute.

Now that is very cool indeed. Didn’t at one point somebody comment that there was one still around but was not sure if it had crashed in a remote area or in a Lake Ontario? Does this sound familar to anyone?

Hopefully at some point maybe not in my time but somebody will come out w/ the truth to why they canceled this program!!

At anyrate, it is sure nice to see a Tribute done to a gem of an a/c…

Flaps up, Mike

Mike;

Rumour has it the one survived “Black Friday” (20 February 1959). The rumour stems from the fact that one of the Arrows was not shown in the dismantling photos taken and because all the documents and other items associated with the project were ordered destroyed. As far as the Lake Ontario scenario Clive Custler and The SEAHUNTERS conducted a search in and around the test area for Flight Test Models of the Arrow used during the test phase prior to production of the full scale planes. Unfortunately, these proved as elusive to find as the “missing” Arrow.

As far as the Why? The Arrow project was abandoned for any number of reasons most political. The destruction of the project to the scale of total obliteration was to prevent the technology falling into the wrong hands during the Cold War.

Part of what feeds the stories about 206 surviving is that the front section of ‘206’ that’s in a museum in Ottawa is clearly from one of the earlier airframes (The intake differs obviously between the 5 mk1 birds and the Iroquois-Powered mkII, of which 206 was the only one in flyable condition when it was cancelled)

The replica was given the ID Number 203 how’s that fit into the rumour of “the one that got away” I do not know. All in all a great aircraft that was cancelled too soon and a great replica built to remind us and future generations of what might have been.
